Anti-Gay Tennessee Billboard Quotes Leviticus: Homosexuality Is An ‘Abomination’

A billboard erected in Tennessee with an ugly anti-gay message that quotes Leviticus is drawing mixed reactions from local residents.

Some residents in the town of Portland, Tennessee are not very happy about a new billboard that reads, “Leviticus 18:22 You shall not lie with a man as with a woman it is an abomination.” The message is signed, “God,” and on the other half it adds, “Love the sinner, hate the sin.” It was paid for by “concerned Christians,” not a formal group, just an anonymous group of people who hate homosexuality so much they’re putting their money where their mouths are.

Local station Fox 17 WZTV reports it reached out to the billboard company but they would not reveal the name of the person or persons who paid for the message.

In their video report, WZTV spoke with several residents. One says the billboard’s message is “rude,” and another told the reporter she wouldn’t want her sins singled out on a billboard, and one said it’s “bullying gays.”

But another resident said he’s fine with it, because it’s “free speech.” One woman said she supports it because it’s “God’s word.”

The Tennessee Equality Project is worried LGBTQ teens will see the billboard in their neighborhood or s they drive by and will be upset — which could have tragic consequences.
