Anti-Gay Group Launches Boycott Against Target For Supporting Marriage

The anti-gay hate group American Family Association has just launched a boycott of superstore big box retailer Target over the billion-dollar corporation’s support of same-sex marriage.

The American Family Association is certified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-gay hate group. It is home to Bryan Fischer, its top spokesperson who hosts a daily radio show during which, almost daily, he rails against homosexuality — along with liberalism and science.

Today, AFA joins with other religious right anti-gay groups including NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, in boycotting Target (NYSE:TGT), because “Target has filed legal briefs in two court cases intended to win marriage rights for homosexuals and lesbians.” In a request for “Christians” to join their boycott of the $73 billion retailer with nearly 2000 superstores, the AFA calls Target “a company whose leaders make a mockery of marriage. They make a mockery of God’s Word – and every Christian in this nation should let Target know it is out of step with the majority of Americans who support natural marriage.”

The American Family Association included this quote from Target Executive Vice President of Human Resources Jodee Kozlak, which apparently was offensive to the folks at the AFA:

“It is our belief that everyone should be treated equally under the law, and that includes rights we believe individuals should have related to marriage.”

It’s unknown if the American Family Association will release statistics on the number of people they have convinced to boycott Target, but the boycott started by NOM one month ago has failed so completely that NOM has removed the boycott from its sidebar of ongoing boycotts that include Starbucks and Chase Bank. NOM’s petition at ActRight shows a mere 2852 people have signed.
