Watch: Disbarred GOP ‘Faith’ Candidate For Governor Boasts He ‘Stood Up To The Gay Lobby’

A Republican former prosecutor disbarred in Arizona over ethics violations is a GOP candidate for governor. Watch his latest ad that touts his “faith, family, and freedom” anti-gay platform.

In 2004, an Arizona county prosecutor called Andrew Thomas “a zealot” who “believes women ought to be home mothering, not pursuing careers.”

“He thinks gay people are going to rot in hell,” she added. “He’s against any rights for those accused of crimes. Hell, I’m a career prosecutor, and I think his views smack of something out of a George Orwell book. He’s impractical, inexperienced and thinks he’s got it all figured out. That’s dangerous.”

In 2012, attorney and former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas was disbarred over ethics violations.

“The disciplinary panel dismissed a few charges, but it found ‘clear and convincing evidence’ that Thomas” had abused his “prosecutorial powers while trying to prosecute county Supervisors” and a Superior Court Judge, the Phoenix New Times reported. “The panel found that Thomas and [his former Deputy, Lisa] Aubuchon launched unethical attacks on their political enemies.”

Thomas and Aubuchon acted with dishonesty and failed to cooperate with the State Bar, the panel found.

The ruling by the presiding disciplinary judge of the Supreme Court Of Arizona, which disbarred Thomas, Aubuchon, and another attorney, was 247 pages long.

Today, Andrew Thomas is running as a Republican to become the next governor of Arizona.

“This election, we must defend our way of life and secure our border,” Thomas says in his recent video ad, “but we must also defend the family, and marriage. I am the only candidate for governor who stood up to the gay lobby and supported SB 1062.”

SB 1062 was the radical religious right wing “freedom to discriminate” bill that Governor Jan Brewer vetoed, much to the surprise of Republicans nationwide.

Thomas supported the bill, which would have allowed anyone in Arizona to discriminate against gay people for “religious” reasons. In his ad, he claims the bill “protected religious freedom and all Arizonans from frivolous gay rights lawsuits.”

Thomas concludes, “we must stand up to liberal bullies. With marriage and moral values under attack, please join me in defending faith, family, and freedom.”
