Same-Sex Marriage ‘Is The Gateway Drug To Violent Persecution’ Of Christians Says Barber

Christian activist and Vice President of the anti-gay legal firm Liberty Counsel Action, Matt Barber is now claiming that same-sex marriage will lead to the violent persecution of Christians.

Matt Barber is now claiming that same-sex marriage, or at least the embrace of same-sex marriage, “is the gateway drug, unfortunately, to violent persecution.”

Barber, who is the founder and editor-in-chief of BarbWire.com, a recent creation from the radical religious right. He’s also affiliated with Liberty Counsel, which fights a religious war of its own making, including against a public library for promoting a Harry Potter book by awarding a certificate upon completion. Liberty Counsel claimed “witchcraft is a religion, and the certificate of witchcraft endorsed a particular religion in violation of the First Amendment establishment clause.”

Barber has far more sinister acts under his belt, however. 

His latest focus is his belief that same-sex marriage and the LGBT community, and Christianity are incompatible.

In a series of audio clips, Right Wing Watch today reports that Barber thinks “the Religious Right should prepare for mass civil disobedience to fight ‘so-called same-sex marriage and the LGBT sexual orientation agenda,’ which he claims somehow violates the rights of Christians.”

During an interview on REEL Talk, Barber said that “we are going to reach a point in the U.S. where we revisit some of the civil disobedience that we saw in the 60s during those civil rights struggles.”

Barber then goes “on to compare the state of conservative Christians in the U.S. to Jews in Nazi Germany due to the debate over ‘counterfeit gay marriage,'” Right Wing Watch notes.

“They are going after Christians, they are going after churches,” Barber said. “It’s escalating but we’re not to the point, obviously, that we’re seeing with our Christian brothers and sisters around the world in Iraq, Syria and Sudan and elsewhere where they are literally being tortured and beheaded. It’s a soft persecution in the United States but that is the gateway drug, unfortunately, to violent persecution.”

So, in Barber’s mind, same-sex marriage will lead to the death of Christians.
