A Tea Party Congressman is claiming that the U.S. could help free the girls kidnapped by terrorist group Boko Haram but won’t because of Nigeria’s anti-gay policies.
U.S. Congressman Steve Stockman (image, top, right) chose to not run for re-election because he wanted to become Senator Steve Stockman. Unfortunately for the Tea Party Republican from Texas, Senator John Cornyn won his primary battle against Stockman by a whopping 58-19 margin, so he won’t be returning to Washington, D.C. after January.
But Stockman, a 57-year old Southern Baptist who doesn’t hesitate to use the words “fag,” “Sodomites,” and “Mean Lesbian,” and whose anti-gay positions merge perfectly with his selfies taken with two of the stars of “Duck Dynasty” during the State of the Union Address, has a new anti-gay theory.
“We have information that would help the Nigerian military take back their country and get back those girls,†Stockman told World Net Daily, a far-right wing birther website. “The mistake on our side – the United States’ side – is that we have laws preventing us from sharing that information with the Nigerian military. And one of the reasons is that we don’t like some of the social policy of the Nigerian government.â€
A source who insisted on anonymity told WND the “policy†is Nigeria’s determination to affirm traditional marriage and reject same-sex unions along with non-discrimination statutes that endorse homosexuality.
The American government has stated, as far back as May, that it will help Nigeria despite U.S. laws prohibiting U.S. military “from helping foreign security forces guilty of human rights abuses,” as Right Wing Watch and ABC News report.
Last year, Rep. Stockman threatened to have President Barack Obama impeached over his use of executive orders to curb gun violence. In January of 2013, Stockman compared the President to Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi dictator known for using children as human shields to protect him, and who was responsible for hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizen deaths.
Stockman in the early ’90’s ran two times before getting elected on his third try. He served in Congress one term before voters booted him, but memories are short and attitudes change. Stockman won election to Congress again in 2012.
Last year, he opposed the Violence Against Women Act. In 2012 he supported a DOMA constitutional amendment. This year he voted against food stamps. He reportedly opposes same-sex marriage, abortion rights, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, green energy, and increasing taxes on the wealthy.
Stockman is under investigation for ethics violations.
