‘Don’t Say Gay’ GOP Senator Who Insisted HIV Transmitted Only Via Gay Sex Loses Primary

Tennessee Republican one-term state Senator Stacey Campfield last night lost his primary battle to a medical doctor.

The good citizens of Tennessee won’t have Senator Stacey Campfield to kick around anymore. Nor will late night comedians, pundits, or journalists. The freshman, one-term state Senator lost his primary battle against Dr. Richard Briggs, whom most late night comedians, pundits, and journalists will likely ask if he agrees with one of Sen. Campfield’s most outrageous — and dangerous — false claims, that “it is virtually — not completely, but virtually — impossible to contract AIDS through heterosexual sex.”

Campfield won just 28 percent of the vote.

Senator Stacey Campfield came to nationwide attention when he sponsored the “Don’t Say Gay” bill that would not only have prevented any discussion of homosexuality in public schools whatsoever, but, as a result, so severely stigmatize LGBTQ children as to make them likely more subject to bullying and even possibly increase the rate of attempted suicides.

Despite anti-gay bullying teen suicides in Tennessee, Senator Campfield had said, “That bullying thing is the biggest lark out there.”

There are so many offensive acts Campfield has committed, so many offensive comments he has made, too numerous to list.

But The Tennessean made a short one:

Memorable comments and moments included: unsuccessfully attempting to join the Tennessee legislature’s Black Caucus; blaming AIDS on a gay airline pilot having sex with monkeys and saying the disease is “virtually impossible” to contract during heterosexual intercourse; and, most recently, posting on his blog that “Democrats bragging about the number of mandatory sign ups for Obamacare is like Germans bragging about the number of mandatory sign ups for ‘train rides’ for Jews in the 40s.”

(Let’s not forget his drug testing of welfare recipients bill that just went into effect.)

Local new site MetroPlus published an extensive bio of Campfield. It’s not flattering.

Campfield, on his blog, last night posted this video.
