State Republican Party Denies Anti-Hillary Monica Lewinsky Bumper Stickers Are Theirs

The Republican Party of Virginia tonight is denying it had anything to do with anti-Hillary Clinton bumper stickers that were found in their offices and have “Authorized By Republican Party of Virginia” on them.

A stack of bumper stickers that read “Monica Lewinsky’s X-Boyfriend’s Wife for President” and, at the bottom in small print, “Authorized By Republican Party Of Virginia,” were found by a good samaritan at the Fairfax County Republican Committee headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, according to several reports today at Talking Points Memo.

TPM also reports that Reuters political correspondent Gabriel Debenedetti “tweeted a photo of it on Friday morning and said he found it in Fairfax County, Va.”

But the Virginia state Republican Party claims the GOP has nothing to do with it.

Retired journalist Carole Donoghue, who calls the denials by the Virginia state GOP “dishonest,” told TPM how she came across the bumper stickers.

Donoghue said she was out walking her dog on Sunday when she found an older man sitting on the pavement who looked like he “wasn’t doing well.” The man told her he was out campaigning for the Republican Party, and that he was diabetic and needed insulin, she said. Worried about the man’s condition, Donoghue drove him back to the county Republican Party headquarters.

It was there in the office, Donoghue said, where she found the Lewinsky bumper stickers.

“The man wanted to repay me for driving him, so I just took one of the stickers as a trophy,” she said. “There was a whole stack of them there.”
