Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet: Rick Santorum Wanted A Photo With Me – I Said No.

Eric Stonestreet, the straight actor who plays “Cam,” Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s husband on the hit TV series “Modern Family,” drew the line when anti-gay politician Rick Santorum asked if he would take a photo with him.

Eric Stonestreet, the “Modern Family” better half — and now husband — to Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s character “Mitch,” says that he is shocked how many anti-gay conservatives want to get their picture taken with him. The 42-year old Emmy Award-winning actor told the Huffington Post yesterday that at a recent White House Correspondents Dinner — which has become a who’s who of Hollywood elites — Rick Santorum asked Stonestreet to pose for a photo with him.

“Rick Santorum wanted a picture with me,” Stonestreet told Huff Post Live on Wednesday. “It was at a time when he was publicly saying, ‘Gay marriage, gay marriage [is wrong],’ and I’m like, ‘You know, I can’t do it.’ It was with him and his kids or something like that, and I said, ‘I’d be happy to take a picture with the kids, but I can’t just be in a picture with [Santorum.]'”

Stonestreet was also asked if he thinks “Modern Family” has played a role in advancing same-sex marriage and equality for LGBT people.

“President Obama mentioned in an interview like three weeks ago, just casually, that Michelle and the kids watch Mitch and Cam and they’re in tears,” Stonestreet told HuffPo’s Caitlyn Becker. “To hear the leader of the free world, the president of the United States, say that and to know we have that sort of reach with people and that the people in power and leadership are watching the show [is incredible].”

He also mentioned that Colin Powell, the former Bush Secretary of State, watches the show.

Santorum, who has said he will “die” to stop the advance of same-sex marriage, just last month told American Family Association spokesperson Bryan Fischer he believes liberals are waging a “war” against Christians, against marriage, and are sending Christians to “re-education camps.”

He also suggested he will run again for President.

No word on if Stonestreet would allow his picture to be taken with a President Santorum, but safe money is on “no.”
