Look: Empire State Building Celebrates Pride

The Empire State building, an iconic, integral part of the essence of New York City, has gone all out in celebrating Pride month.

Since construction was completed in 1931, the Empire State Building — the world’s tallest building until 1970 — has always been one of the most recognizable icons of New York. It proudly stands 1454 feet tall, and this weekend it proudly wears the rainbow colors to honor and celebrate Pride.

This is not the first year the Empire State Building lit up to celebrate Pride. Last year, the lights looked just as bright.

In 2011, to celebrate New York extending marriage to same-sex couples, a photo of the Empire State Building lit in its rainbow colors went viral across the Internet.

The Empire State Building’s rainbow lighting is done in conjunction with NYC Pride, the official organizers of NYC’s LGBT Pride.
