George Takei Posted This Video To UpWorthy You Really Will Want To Watch

George Takei is one of our favorite LGBT icons. He’s led an amazing life, including living with his family in a World War II U.S. internment camp at the age of five because he was of Japanese ancestry.

His Facebook page has over seven million fans and he has over one million followers on Twitter.

But what often impresses us with George (do you think he minds if we call him George?) is his positive attitude and desire to make the world better for us all.

George is a guest curator on UpWorthy right now, and he posted the below video, along with a short note about “the ick factor,” which he describes as “the visceral reaction many have to the sight of something unfamiliar, like two men kissing.”

“When I was growing up, the reaction toward interracial couples was similar, and that disgust over white/non-white intimacy was used to justify laws against interracial marriage.”

Takei notes that the ick factor “is fading away, as it inevitably will.” But he thinks you should watch the video “and ask yourself, ‘Do I have a bit of the ‘ick’ in me?’”

Surprisingly, Takei didn’t reference the Michael Sam kiss on ESPN, but that’s the perfect intro to this video.

What do you think?
