Duck Dynasty Dad Phil Robertson Wants Gays To Know He’s Just Trying To ‘Turn Them To Jesus’

Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson told an audience this weekend he doesn’t mean any harm to gay people — he’s just “trying to help those poor souls and turn them to Jesus.”

Phil Robertson can’t seem to utter one sentence in public without attacking or offending gay people. Whether it’s his anti-gay and racist comments to GQ magazine last winter, or his anti-gay comments at an Easter Sunday sermon this spring, Robertson just loves to talk about the gays.

This weekend Robertson spoke at the Rock the South festival in Cullman, Alabama, and wound up revisiting his comments about the male anatomy and how he doesn’t understand how it could be “more desirable” to a man than a woman’s anatomy. And then he defended himself against the gay community, claiming, “I’m actually a nice man. … I’m trying to help those poor souls and turn them to Jesus.”

He also insisted, “I just quoted a Bible verse and everybody said I was a mean old man.”

Robertson also urged the audience to vote Washington politicians out of office.

“Hey, Alabama, whatever you do, register to vote for this presidential election,” Robertson told the boisterous crowd. “Go vote for the House and the Senate, too. Vote this ungodly bunch out of Washington, D.C.”

Mary Colurso of AL.com was at Saturday’s Rock the South festival and shared Robertson’s comments on marriage.

“You don’t wait for ’em to be 20 yrs old to marry ’em. That’s too old,” Robertson reportedly said — and not the first time the 68-year old Duck Commander has made that assertion, having reportedly married his own wife when she was 16-years old. And back in December, Robertson made clear his ideas about child marriage.

“You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16,” Robertson said, as he lamented that “boys are waiting until they get to be about 20 years old before they marry ‘em. Look, you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket.”
