Watch This Heart-Warming Google Ad For Same-Sex Marriage That Just Won A Webby Award
Last year, as France moved towards extending marriage to same-sex couples, violent outbreaks erupted during strange protest marches organized by a Tea Party-esque group, La Manif Pour Tous. The National Organization For Marriage’s Brian Brown curiously seemed ever-present during the marches, yet refused to denounce the violence until after French lawmakers passed the legislation.
One positive landmark during the battle for marriage was an ad campaign for Google+ that featured a mayor from the country of Belgium who offered to marry French same-sex couples in a ceremony via Google’s video conferencing technology. Google partnered with a French marriage equality organization, Tous Unis Pour L’egalite.
The ad, produced by Ogilvy Paris, this morning won a Webby Award for Corporate Responsibility.
The Webbys have been awarded by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences since 1996, and are known as the Oscars of the internet.
