Shortly after signing his country’s highly-criticized Anti-Homosexuality Bill into law today, Uganda‘s Yoweri Museveni told CNN that he personally believes gay people are “disgusting.”
Asked if he “personally” dislikes homosexuals, President Museveni could barely contain himself in an interview today. “Of course! They are disgusting!,” the 69-year old president who just celebrated his 28th anniversary as the nation’s leader — he held an armed revolt in 1986 and successfully forced a coup — told CNN’s Zain Verjee.
“What sort of people are they?” Museveni asked. “I never knew what they were doing. I’ve been told recently that what they do is terrible. Disgusting. But I was ready to ignore that if there was proof that that’s how he is born, abnormal. But now the proof is not there.”
Apparently, Museveni has been lobbied by people like Uganda pastor Martin Ssempa, who famously has charged gay people with “eating the poo-poo.”
Museveni may also have been talking with American pastor Scott Lively, on trial in the U.S. for crimes against humanity, directly related to his work in Uganda on what became the “Kill the Gays” bill, and later, the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, signed today.
Regardless of where Museveni has been getting his “advice,” his advisors have been telling tall tales and lies.
Now, it’s open-season on Uganda’s LGBT population. Minimum 14 years in prison for an act of homosexual sex, life in prison for “aggravated homosexuality.”
That is what is “disgusting.”
