Watch Live Now: Indiana Senate Votes On Bill Allowing Ban Of Same-Sex Marriage

var addthis_config = {“data_track_addressbar”:true};

The Indiana Senate is about to vote on legislation that would make voters decide if they want a ban on same-sex marriage written into their state constitution. The bill has already cleared the House and a Senate committee. Barring any procedural issues, this vote likely will be the last — for now.

Central to the issue is whether or not the bill will be put before voters this November. As the bill currently stands, it is not exactly the same as legislation passed earlier, and for a ballot initiative to be put before voters, the text of the legislation must be passed in two consecutive state legislative sessions and be identical.

But dirty tricks abound in the Indiana House and Senate, and lawmakers are even proposing removing a single digit from the text, to get the bill passed, after which a committee could make it identical to previously passed legislation, thus forcing it before voters this year.

You can watch the vote live, scheduled to start at 1:30 PM ET, here.
