Watch: Franklin Graham Says Gays ‘Cannot Have Children’ But Can ‘Recruit’ Them

Billy Graham is now 95. If you’re old enough to remember the Billy Graham Crusades, you’re old enough to remember Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson. If the name of Billy Graham’s 61-year old son, Franklin Graham, means little to you, it’s because he’s nothing like his charismatic father who advised many U.S. presidents and was included on Gallup’s list of most admired men and women 55 times.

“I believe the Bible from cover to cover,” Franklin Graham told the Charlotte Observer in an interview recorded yesterday. He was responding to a question about same-sex marriage. “I believe the Old Testament as well as the New Testament,” he said, with a smirk.

Graham, an Evangelical Christian missionary, was speaking in code. He might just as well have said he believes in stoning gay people to death, for that’s what the Bible mandates.

But Franklin Graham says his comments about gays and lesbians are born only from love.

“I love people enough and care enough,” Graham told the Observer, “to warn them … that if they chose to continue to live in sin, God is going to judge them one day and they’ll be separated from him for eternity in hell.”

“Of course, gays and lesbians cannot have children,” he says, calling it, as he chuckles, “biologically impossible.” When the reporter offers that gays and lesbians can adopt children, Graham corrects him. “They can recruit. You can adopt a child into a marriage, but you can also recruit children into your cause. I believe in protecting children from exploitation – all exploitations.”

Franklin Graham then talks about his hero, Vladimir Putin. He mentions the anti-gay extremist’s name many times during the interview, and praises the Russian president.

“I believe in protecting children from exploitation — all exploitations,” Graham continues, getting fidgety, indignant, and almost angry. He says this right after claiming gays and lesbians recruit children into their “cause” — presumably meaning that gays and lesbians are pedophiles and adopt children to have sex with them. “That’s all it is about. I agree with Putin, I think that protecting his nation’s children was probably a pretty smart thing to do.”

Graham attacks the U.S. Congress for not being more like the Russian president. He also says he believes Congress and President Barack Obama “at every turn” are following the “gay agenda.”

“Our President, and others, are going forward, with an agenda — the gay and lesbian agenda, and many in the Congress are following them.

Shockingly, Franklin Graham cannot understand why his words are met with resistance.

“As far as persecution, I’m attacked all the time, because of my religious beliefs, what I believe and what I say. And there are people who are very quick to demonize you if you disagree with them. The left, the gay lesbian movement. If I disagree with a gay person, then I’m a homophobic [sic]. I’m intolerant. It’s not that I’m a homophobe, I’m not afraid of them. I’m not intolerant, I just have a different opinion, a different view.”
