The New Civil Rights Movement on Saturday won the “Outstanding Blog” award at the GLAAD Media Awards, held in New York City’s Waldorf Astoria hotel. The GLAAD Media Awards “recognize and honor media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community that inspire change,” according to GLAAD.Â
“We are extremely humbled to be honored by GLAAD with the award for ‘Outstanding Blog’ this year,” says David Badash, Founder and Managing Editor of The New Civil Rights Movement. “GLAAD is one of the nation’s most important and effective LGBT civil rights organizations.”

Badash began The New Civil Rights Movement just days after Prop 8 was passed by California voters in 2008, out of frustration with what he saw as a lack of understanding about why people opposed marriage equality. The New Civil Rights Movement quickly grew into a highly cited media organization delivering news and opinion on politics and issues that affect LGBT people and the progressive community.
