One year ago today, the head of the Republican National Committee (RNC), Reince Priebus, announced the results of the highly-anticipated “GOP autopsy.” It was a months-long study designed to show Republicans why they lost so badly in the 2012 elections, and get them to see that their Todd Akins and other anti-women, anti-gay, racist, religious extremist candidates are just not going to get elected any more.
That was one year ago today.
What’s changed?
Absolutely nothing.
The GOP promised to usher in a kinder, gentler, conservative party that embraced women, gays, African-Americans, Asians, and, yes, even especially immigrants.
They promised to lead on immigration reform.
They promised a party that would embrace change, while sticking to their conservative principles.
Most in the GOP ignored the study, or reshaped it to mean they really only needed to change what they were saying, not what they were doing.
The National Republican Congressional Committee paid to teach Republicans how to campaign if they were in a race against a woman, and how to talk to women.
The only tangible “change,” however, is this video, released this week — one year later — that shows people (actors? no one seems to know) who are African-American, Asian, and Hispanic, saying, “I’m a Republican.”
Well, one year later, it’s a start…
