Southern Baptist Leader: Obama Is The Price America Pays For Allowing Abortion
Richard Land is a big, big name among Southern Baptists. He is the former president of The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, and a former appointee to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), a federal agency. Today he is the president of Southern Evangelical Seminary.
Yesterday, speaking on Tony Perkins’ “Washington Watch” radio show, Land claimed that Barack Obama and his presidency are the price Americans are paying because abortion is legal. He also claimed that God will continue to punish Christians until they repent, and that God will “seek to convict” people who are “in an active homosexual relationship.”
“I certainly think that elections have consequences and frankly I think that President Barack Obama is a judgment of God on the United States because we have allowed 54 million of our unborn citizens to be aborted legally in the United States since 1973,” Land told a caller.
We have had a situation where we have allowed thirty percent of our unborn children every year since 1973 to be killed before they had a chance to live outside their mother’s womb. God is not going to allow that kind of slaughter to go unjudged, if God would send his chosen people, the Israelites, into Babylonian captivity, he will judge the United States and I believe he is judging the United States. I believe that Barack Obama, his presidency, is a judgment of God on the United States.
Land is the author of the Land Letter, sent to President George W. Bush, advocating for the pre-emptive war in Iraq. Apparently, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Americans doesn’t get judged by God, just allowing women the right to terminate their pregnancies does.
Here’s the audio. The first voice is the caller.

In case you’re wondering, 16 million people are Southern Baptists.
Up until 2012, Land’s position at the Southern Baptist Convention was secure, but his plagiarism scandal and racist remarks about Trayvon Martin led to the cancellation of his show and he “retired” shortly thereafter.
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) sends its representatives around the world to “protect” religious freedom — mostly of Christians. Speaker of the House John Boehner appointed Robert P. George, the co-founder of the National Organization For Marriage, to that post in 2012.
