Rupert Murdoch Attacks LGBT Orgs Over St. Patrick’s Parade: It’s A ‘Religious Parade’
Rupert Murdoch is not one to mince words, and today was no exception. The 83-year old Australian-born owner of 21st Century Fox and News Corp. — which includes Fox News — went on a Twitter rant over today’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.
“Where will this end?,” the media magnate tweeted. “Guinness pulls out of religious parade bullied by gay orgs who try to take it over. Hope all Irish boycott the stuff.”
Really?
The St. Patrick’s Day parade may be named in honor of the “Apostle of Ireland,” but to call today’s version of the parade — which includes monumental consumption of alcohol and a Catholic hiatus of Lenten prohibitions of imbibing — is downright laughable.
Besides, gay folks aren’t trying to “take over” the parade or the holiday, but merely be allowed to participate openly.
After all, there are untold millions of LGBT Catholics, LGBT Irish people, and isn’t everyone today an honorary Irish person?
Besides, if Guinness was “bullied,” wouldn’t a good person run to their aid, rather than attack them?
Guinness indeed dropped their sponsorship of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade, as did Heineken. Sam Adams beer dropped their sponsorship of their hometown’s Boston St. Patrick’s parade too. Why isn’t Murdoch defending those brewers?

In 2012, British Members of Parliament released a 125-page report that concluded Rupert Murdoch “is not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of a major international company.” Last week, the recently-divorced bachelor bought a $43 million 6850-square-foot apartment in New York City. Hope he gets a good view of the parade from there.
This Irish man had a thoughtful response to Murdoch:
@rupertmurdoch It’s a Diageo brand, product of a London HQ’d multinational. The fake ‘drink me I’m Irish’ stuff was getting old anyway.
