Mike Huckabee: Same-Sex Marriage Supporters Not ‘On The Right Side Of The Bible’

Labels Supreme Court ‘The Extreme Court’ Over Decision To Not Hear Anti-Gay Photographer Case

Mike Huckabee never misses an opportunity to draw attention or money and even though he said in 2011 that running for president was not in his heart, he’s ramping up another typical faux-GOP presidential campaign.

Following the usual conservative formula — à la Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, et al — Huckabee is striking out in the culture wars, and that means denouncing same-sex marriage. Of course, the ordained Baptist minister put his own Arkansas spin on it.

“I’m not against anybody. I’m really not. I’m not a hater. I’m not homophobic,” Huckabee told the crowd yesterday as he delivered the keynote address to the GOP’s all-important Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition.

“I honestly don’t care what people do personally in their individual lives. But…when people say, ‘Why don’t you just kind of get on the right side of history?’ I said, ‘You’ve got to understand, this for me is not about the right side or the wrong side of history, this is the right side of the Bible, and unless God rewrites it, edits it, sends it down with his signature on it, it’s not my book to change.’ Folks, that’s why I stand where I stand.”

Huckabee then went on to slam the Supreme Court as “the extreme court” for its decision to not hear a case involving an anti-gay photographer in which every court has decided against discrimination and in favor of a same-sex couple.

Setting up an apples vs. oranges analogy involving Muslims and the Islamic prophet Muhammad, Huckabee blasted “this government.”

“Why is it that Christians stand back and take it in the teeth time and time and time again? But we cannot change this country if we do not rise up and vote with an informed mind and a committed spirit and if we’re not willing to stand along.”
