Satirist and late night comedian Jon Stewart last night mocked NFL execs and sports pundits who claim that NFL teams won’t want to hire Michael Sam after the University of Missouri All-American MVP football player came out as gay.

After slamming Jonathan Vilma, the New Orleans Saints linebacker who said he just doesn’t know how to respond if a gay player looked at him in the showers, Stewart went off on those who are using the “controversy” of a gay player to reject talent like Sam.

“No pro team wants the kind of controversy having a gay player is going to cause,” Stewart quipped, starting down along a line of NFL players who have had run-ins with the law — a far cry from being gay. “If he had just been convicted of DUI manslaughter, or, obstruction of justice in connection with a murder, or had been accused of sexual assault, or screamed the ‘N’ word at a concert, or killed a bunch of dogs and buried ’em in his f*cking yard, you know, NFL material.”
