Republican Governor Jan Brewer‘s office has decided to push back against multiple reports in the mainstream press that claim she has decided to veto an anti-gay bill allowing for religious discrimination against gay people and other minorities. The Republican Governor had called SB-1062 a “very controversial” bill just days ago, and publicly has not stated her intentions, but news reports have been claiming Brewer will veto the legislation for economic reasons.

Business Insider reports now that “a Brewer spokesperson” emailed stating, “Governor Brewer hasn’t yet made a decision,” and added, the Arizona “Senate transmitted its bill to our office yesterday while the Governor was in DC. When she returns, she will take the time necessary to thoroughly review and evaluate the legislation before taking action.”
But given that nearly every top corporation in Arizona, and many Republicans — including those who voted for the bill — are demanding Brewer veto it, chances seem slim she would sign it into law.
At risk is the 2015 Super Bowl, over 1000 jobs coming into the state from Apple, and many, many others from other corporations.
In short, the economic loss could be greater than Arizona faced when Brewer signed SB 1070, the mostly unconstitutional anti-immigrant legislation that the U.S. Supreme Court in large part struck down.
Will she or won’t she?
Governor Brewer has five days from when her office received the legislation to sign it, veto it, or do nothing — allowing it to become law without her signature.
By Saturday morning at the latest, we should know, but as Think Progress’ Igor Volsky, and political strategic Joe Trippi note, the longer she waits, the worse for Arizona:
