If Being Gay Were Normal, The Human Race Would Become ‘Extinct’ Says Perkins

As the march for civil rights of LGBT people becomes more and more successful, those on the wrong side of history are forced to take increasingly hostile positions, just to try to maintain their ever-shrinking base.

Enter Tony Perkins.

Tony Perkins is not just the president of the Family Research Council — a certified anti-gay hate group parading about Washington, D.C. as an evangelical Christian right wing think tank.

Perkins has big ambitions.

A former Baton Rouge, Louisiana police officer, Perkins reportedly “was suspended from duty and subsequently quit,” after he “failed to report an illegal conspiracy by antiabortion activists to his superiors, then publicly criticized police tactics designed to stop the activists from restricting access to a local abortion clinic.”

Perkins also managed to work with the U.S. State Department’s Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program, and recently got Governor Bobby Jindal to appoint him to Louisiana’s Commission on Law Enforcement.

Perkins served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1996–2004 and tried — but failed — to win a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2002.

Some say he’s trying again, having proven his extremely conservative bonafides.

Yes, Tony Perkins may run for the U.S. Senate next year in an attempt to unseat Democrat Mary Landrieu, according to the right wing news site, The Daily Caller.

So, when possible Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tony Perkins says that “the human race would be extinct within time if [homosexuality] were normal,” it’ not just some amped up rhetoric from the head of an anti-gay hate group. It’s hate speech from a possible U.S. Senatorial candidate.

And that alone should be huge cause for concern — not only for the people of the great state of Louisiana — but for all Americans, gay, straight, bisexual, lesbian, or transgender.

Here’s the audio from Perkins’ Washington Watch radio program on Friday. The first voice you’ll hear is the caller. Below, too, is the transcript.

Caller: At the beginning of your show, I suppose it was a rhetorical question about what’s driving this administration. Well, simple explanation. If it’s not of God, it’s of the Devil; and you can certainly tell that the Obama administration is not of God. How can they expect any kind of peace with crazy stuff going on with any kind of certainty of working things out when you have a Muslim leader of a country over here per se trying to work things out between the Jewish people and Muslims and stuff, you know how can they expect it not to go the way they want it to?

One of my things about the gay and lesbian stuff. I have a non-biblical way to try to get the attention would be to ask those people that practice that lifestyle if it were not for physical relationship, intimacy between a man and a woman, how could they exist?

Perkins: Basic biology. You’re absolutely right. That’s why if you think about it, its logical conclusion would be if it were normal it would be extinct, the human race would be extinct within time if it were normal. So you’re right. Biology says the only we exist as human beings is that a man and a woman come together and we procreate. That’s the reason that government has long recognize marriage is because it is the place in which children are born.
