HGTV Slammed For Excluding Anti-Gay Christian Consumers From America’s ‘Rainbow Of Diversity’

Faith Driven Consumer, a Christian group that claims to represent 46 million Americans who spend $1.75 trillion annually, today slammed HGTV for its decision to cancel “Flip It Forward.” The reality TV series was announced just three weeks ago, but this week came under intense pressure from Americans upon learning about the anti-gay, anti-women, and anti-Muslim actions and comments of its co-stars and their father.

Although claiming to represent 46 million Americans, Faith Driven Consumer’s petition demanding HGTV reinstate the reality show has garnered just over 3000 signatures, a clear indication that most of America’s 317 million citizens do not support religious-based prejudice or bigotry against any group of people.

Flip It Forward was to have starred twin brothers David and Jason Benham, who own a home remodeling business and have been very active in religious politics, following in the footsteps of their father, Flip Benham.

The organization’s campaign, Flip This Decision, claims that HGTV canceled the TV show “because of the pro-life and pro-natural marriage faith-driven beliefs of stars David and Jason Benham.”

The petition claims the “views that the Benham’s have publicly expressed reflect a biblical view of life, sexuality, marriage, and family that have stood the test of time for thousands of years and continue to be held by the majority of Americans and your viewers.” It adds that “HGTV’s decision to exclude those who hold to a faith-based viewpoint held by 46 million Faith Driven Consumers who spend $1.75 trillion annually has no place in America’s inclusive rainbow of diversity.”

According to Right Wing Watch, David Benham has compared fighting same-sex marriage to fighting Hitler’s Nazis, he’s written that same-sex marriage “erodes the moral fabric of our society,” and cited Leviticus to say that gay men will never find true love. Benham has also said “homosexuality and its agenda” are “attacking the nation.”

Faith Driven Consumer has also recently mounted similar campaigns, one against Mozilla, after the controversy surrounding Brendan Eich led to his resignation, one against A&E TV for suspending “Duck Dynasty” dad Phil Robertson, and one against the makers of the film “Noah.”
