GOP State House Candidate Says ‘Homosexual Marriage Causes Child Abuse’

A Republican candidate running for a seat in the Colorado General Assembly sent an email blast attacking LGBT people and same-sex marriage. Gordon Klingenschmitt, who also runs a religious activist organization called the Pray In Jesus Name Project, told supporters that advances made for LGBT civil rights and equality are signs Americans are increasingly “deceived by the devil.”

Klingenschmitt, who was a Navy evangelical Protestant chaplain and went through court-martial proceedings in 2006, is urging supporters to send faxes to Congress demanding a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

“What is the most cruel thing you can do to a child?,” Klingenschmitt, who for some unknown reason calls himself Dr. Chaps, asked. “After physical or sexual abuse, the most cruel thing you can do to a child is take away their mother. That’s how homosexual ‘marriage’ causes child abuse, by taking away the child’s mother (or father) and telling the child ‘your need for a mother is less than our right for homosexual pleasure.'”

Of course, Klingenschmitt didn’t bother to explain how that applies to the millions of children same-sex couples adopt — who would have no mother or father without them — but why let facts get in the way?

But if his “logic” is faulty, Klingenschmitt’s view of the world is downright frightening.

“If our citizens are deceived by the devil, and we fail to discern the spirits who influence those politicians for whom we vote, then we will elect anti-Christian tyrants to re-define our national morality in the image of evil. Woe to them who call good evil, and evil good.”

This, remember, is a man running for public office.

Fortunately, the good people of Colorado probably shouldn’t worry too much. Klingenschmitt’s Facebook page has all of 223 “likes” as of this writing.
