GOP Senator Refuses To Hire Gays, Refuses To Believe Climate Change Exists

Oh, Jim Inhofe, you’ll never change, will you?
“My wife and I have been married 47 years. We have 20 kids and grandkids. I’m really proud to say that in the recorded history of our family, we’ve never had a divorce or any kind of homosexual relationship.”
That was Republican U.S. Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, back in 2006, on the floor of the U.S. Senate, advocating to write a ban on same-sex marriage into the Constitution.
Of course, Inhofe was wrong in 2006, and lost that debate.

Senator Inhofe reportedly refuses to hire openly-gay people, too. In 2004, the Seattle Times wrote that Inhofe said “that he does not hire openly gay staffers ‘due to the possibility of a conflict of agenda.'”
Inhofe’s insular extremism carries over to many other areas of course, too.
Last fall, shortly after announcing he would “be voting this week to defund ObamaCare with my friend Senator Ted Cruz,” Inhofe was forced to undergo emergency open-heart surgery.
“I went in for a routine colonoscopy that everyone gets and was sent to the hospital instead for open-heart surgery. The doctors said, ‘Your colon is perfect, but your heart is what we are worried about.’â€
Yes, the man who voted to deprive 30 million Americans of access to affordable health care bragged to reporters that he felt “great” after undergoing open-heart surgery — after getting a test “that everyone gets.” Everyone who has health insurance — or can afford to pay cash, that is.
Here’s what we reported in that same article:
Inhofe, by the way, is a huge climate change “truther,†denying that global warming is man-made — or even that it exists. During an historic 2010 blizzard in Washington, D.C., Inhofe’s family made an igloo and called it “Al Gore’s Home,†mocking the former Vice President’s work on climate change.
A look at Senator Jim Inhofe’s voting record finds he has voted against Obamacare, against the Violence Against Women’s Act, against gun control — including background checks, against immigration reform, against repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, against the Hate Crimes Bill, against the Employment Nondiscrimination Act, against relief for Hurricane Sandy victims, against funding alternative fuels, against tax cuts for the middle class, and against the UN treaty for Rights of Persons with Disabilities, to name a few.
And today, as Think Progress reports, “Inhofe pointed to freezing temperatures across the country to explain climate change science is both “laughable†and rigged.
Usually the first to seize on snowy weather to argue against climate action, Inhofe described how the United Nations invented the “global warming thing†as a power grab. In his words, U.N. climate change conferences to negotiate global action are nothing more than a “Global Warming Party†with “all you can eat†and “all you can drink.†He talked about how scientists were recently stuck in Antarctic ice, which to him was more proof climate change is not happening.
Inhofe’s home state of Oklahoma, meanwhile, has suffered through severe droughts and the hottest summer ever recorded in the U.S.
Why exactly is Inhofe still serving in the U.S. Senate?
