Gay People Should Be Jailed If They Don’t Submit To ‘Ex-Gay’ Therapy Says Lively

Scott Lively, one of the Republican candidates running to become the next governor of Massachusetts, envisions a world where all gay people voluntarily submit to so-called “ex-gay” therapy — or go to jail. Lively, apparently  — if you follow his logic — doesn’t want gay people walking the streets as free human beings. He wants only straight people — or people who have successfully, one assumes, completed reparative therapy — walking about town.

Of course, the flaw with Lively’s ideology is that so-called “ex-gay” or reparative therapy doesn’t work. It’s been denounced by every major medical association as ineffective and dangerous, and many of its top purveyors have in recent years admitted that it doesn’t work.

Lively, the 56-year old head of a certified anti-gay hate group who is believed to be largely responsible for both Uganda’s anti-gay laws and for Russia’s, made his remarks in an exclusive interview with the Editor-at-large of Huffington Post Gay Voices, Michelangelo Signorile, regarding Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act.

Lively claims he is “very disappointed with what happened in Uganda,” because lawmakers there, after Lively worked with them, “fell back into punitive sanctions,” instead of focusing “on therapy and prevention” of homosexuality.

He told Signorile he wanted Uganda “to offer reparative therapy” to gay people, but if they didn’t want it, then they would have to “take whatever the other alternative is, which was probably going to jail.”

Is there a greater example of fascism than being forced to submit to (essentially) mandatory reprogramming of one’s most basic instincts — who one loves — than Lively’s ideal of ex-gay therapy or jail? (Anyone getting a “V for Vendetta” feeling right about now?)

(Ironically, Lively calls gays fascists — homo-fascists, actually — and claims in his book, The Pink Swastika, that Hitler and top Nazi leaders were gay.)

Signorile adds that Lively’s Massachusetts gubernatorial campaign exists “so that he can ‘advance a biblical world view in an arena that hasn’t heard that in a while.'”

Lively wants to see an end to gay marriage and desires to bring anti-sodomy laws back to the United States, and, expanding on his recent suggestion of a coming anti-gay “revolution” and “Christian revival,” said he believes the revolution will happen if the “conservative states…rebel against the federal supremacy clause.”

No doubt Massachusetts voters are chomping at the bit to vote for him.
