FRC President Tells Man To Not Marry Fiancee Because She’s Not Christian
Tony Perkins has just redefined traditional marriage. The head of the anti-gay hate group, Family Research Council — like so many others of the religious right — has often used the term traditional marriage to mean the marriage of one man and one woman.
But now, Perkins has revealed that not only must marriage be between one man and one woman, they both must be Christians, or it would be a “mistake” to marry. No interfaith marriages allowed!
Quoting the Bible, Perkins on his Washington Watch radio show today repeatedly told a caller that the Bible says you shall not be “unequally yoked,” and adds that “not all religions are equal.”
The caller, who professes he is a Christian and has accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior, explains that his fiancee is a Buddhist but they both believe they have a firm foundation for their marriage.
“I feel like we can believe what we want to believe, that’s what’s great about this country, you know, and I think it’s going to work in a marriage,” the caller tells Perkins.
But Perkins isn’t buying it.
One has to wonder, does Perkins see the marriages of Muslims as inferior to those of Christians? What about the marriages of Mormons? Catholics? Jews? Dare we even ask what Perkins thinks of the marriages of atheists?
In “They’re not going to stop at same-sex marriage,” Jeremy Hooper at Good As You — who posted the audio and broke this story — writes that “Perkins proved just how far he plans to take his “traditional marriage” advocacy…Listen to the religious freedom at work, folks.”
Shocking.
Probably a good time to remind everyone that Perkins is rumored to be seeking a U.S. Senate or House seat, and is cozying up to his home state governor, Bobby Jindal, who is only too happy to help the hate group head get ahead.
