Fox News: Diversity Is ‘Ethnic Cleansing’

Most people, at least those on the left, can agree that diversity is an admirable goal. Diversity of points of view can make our arguments, a business, a policy stronger. Diversity in the gene pool can make a species stronger. But diversity on a college campus, according to Todd Starnes, the religion reporter at Fox News, is “ethnic cleansing.”

Western Washington University in the state of Washington is a publicly-funded institution of higher learning with about 15,000 students. It is also one of the highest-ranking public universities in the West.

In a passionate blog post of 2853 words, Western Washington University president Bruce Shepard wrote that he is often awake at 3:00 AM “staring at the ceiling” trying to think of ways to better serve his students and, as the head of a public — and publicly-funded — institution, the state and people of Washington.

And that includes better reflecting the changing demographics of the state, and, presumably, the nation.

In what he acknowledged was an intentionally provocative statement, President Shepard, as he has for six years, said, “If we are as white in ten years as we are today, Western will have failed as a university.” Provocative? Perhaps.

“It’s not about keeping whites out,” President Shepard wrote. “The group from which we have traditionally drawn will no longer be out there in the numbers we have previously relied upon.”

“It is about whether we will have the wisdom, the culture, the commitment, to be able to attract a sufficient number of students from diverse backgrounds.”

And that’s where Todd Starnes, Christian warrior and Fox News reporter comes in.

Mocking Shepard Starnes asked, “How can we get rid of all the white folks?” and wished them “all the best as they begin their ethnic cleansing.”

Perhaps it should be noted that ethnic cleansing actually does exist, even today, and it has accounted for the massacre of millions of people. We can hardly compare a college admissions policy with the slaughter of millions of innocents, can we?

Earlier this month, Starnes claimed New York City is “bullying Christians,” and “Christians have officially become second-class citizens in the nation’s largest city,” because the City is refusing to allow churches to use its schools for Sunday services.

In December, a local school in Georgia accused Starnes of having “terrorized” them after he published what they called “an intentional and vicious dissemination of untrue information.”

Starnes is the author of several books, including God Less America: Real Stories From the Front Lines of the Attack on Traditional Values.
