Congresswoman Sandra Fluke? The former Georgetown University Law student who made a name for herself by standing up for women’s rights — only to be labeled a “slut” by Rush Limbaugh — is considering running for the congressional seat currently held by 20-term Democratic icon Henry Waxman.
“I’m flattered that I’m being discussed as a potential candidate, especially for Rep. Waxman’s seat, considering his incredible legacy,” Sandra Fluke said in a statement to The Huffington Post. “A number of folks I respect very deeply have reached out today and encouraged me to run. I am strongly considering running. I’ll be making my decision soon.”
Fluke is now a practicing social justice attorney in Los Angeles.
Rep. Waxman, a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, has been a tremendous supporter of progressive issues, LGBT civil rights, and women’s rights.
