Clay Aiken Poised To Win Democratic Primary With Razor-Thin Lead

Clay Aiken is moving closer to becoming Congressman Clay Aiken of North Carolina. In yesterday’s Democratic primary, Aiken is in the lead, but by a razor thin margin — just 369 votes. Second place currently goes to former Commerce secretary Keith Crisco, who greatly outspent Aiken and attacked him mercilessly. At the end of the night, Aiken had 40.8 percent of the vote, Crisco 39.5.

“I am very confident that we are going to be victorious,” Aiken said last night. His Instagram account reads:

Clay spoke to supporters a few minutes ago. Thanks to everyone who’s supported this campaign these past 3 months. Great night.

If he’s declared the winner, voters will have to choose between the former American Idol star and Tea Party Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers. The two-term Congresswoman is known for her embarrassing attacks against Obamacare and is not well-liked in her district.

As soon as Aiken declared his candidacy, Ellmers blasted his “San Francisco values” in an ugly, anti-gay attack.
