Canada Flips, Anti-Gay Hate Group Leader Wins Appeal, Allowed Entry
An anti-gay hate group leader who was barred entry into Canada has won his appeal and will be allowed into the country. Peter LaBarbera, the leader of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH), reportedly was detained on the grounds he might break Canada’s hate speech laws while attending a pro-life conference in Weyburn.
“We didn’t even really have to make the case,” LaBarbera told LifeSiteNews. “She just said they were unsubstantiated allegations.”
A group called Intolerance-Free Weyburn, which today is holding a rally opposing LaBarbera and the conference, posted a petition to Change.org requesting LaBarbera be denied entry. That petition has over 1300 signatures. In response to the commotion, the mayor of Weyburn will be investigating a grant the city gave to the pro-life group for its conference.
It’s unknown if Canadian authorities will be observing to ensure LaBarbera does not break Canadian hate speech laws.
