Breaking: Anti-Gay Catholic Leader Flip Flops, Refuses To March In Gay Pride Parade
Bill Donohue has just pulled out of his agreement to march in the New York City gay pride parade. The head of the Catholic League, Donohue this week demanded the right to march in the 2014 Pride parade, in an effort to show discrimination from the LGBT community.
And it turns out it was all an attention-getting stunt that backfired.

No doubt Donohue, the man who makes $407,000 a year from his Catholic League HQ, (which just happens to adjoin the New York Archdiocese,) was shocked when Heritage of Pride, the official organizers of NYC Pride, immediately responded to his request, including his demand to march with a “Straight is Great” banner.
Donohue then went on a NewsMax TV internet news show and falsely claimed organizers had not given him a firm answer on his banner, and were demanding he wear “LGBT paraphernalia,” and attend a “gay training” class — none of which is true.
The head of each group officially marching is required to attend an operational safety class, and Donohue used that requirement — the only one he could find, to issue a statement minutes ago.
In “Gay Pride Parade Won’t Bend Its Rules,” Donohue openly admits his duplicity. “The purpose of my request was to see just how far they would go without forcing me to abide by their rules,” he writes, adding, it “didn’t take long before they did.”
Today, I informed Heritage of Pride officials that I objected to their rule requiring me to attend gay training sessions, or what they call “information†sessions. “I don’t agree with your rule,†I said. They responded by saying that attendance was “mandatory.â€
Really? How childish can a grown man get?
The Catholic League head compares NYC Pride’s requirement of one person attending a safety class with the St. Patrick’s Day parade organizers’ refusal to allow LGBT groups to march openly. There’s a big difference here, and Donohue must see that. But the safety of hundreds of thousands of people marching on the streets of New York City is apparently unimportant to Donohue.
He now claims it’s “hypocritical for gay activists to complain about having to abide by the mandatory rules of the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and then inform me that I cannot march in their parade unless I respect their mandatory rules, rules that I reject.”
And here’s his apparent goodbye announcement — not even an open statement admitting his flip-flop, turn-tail running away — that he will not be marching:
Good luck to the Heritage of Pride participants. I may be watching it from afar, but I sure won’t be downing a Guinness afterwards.
The Guinness quip is a reference to his new boycott of the Irish stout, the makers of which dropped their support of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade over the anti-LGBT policy.
Hypocrite? Blowhard? Coward? Yup, Donohue is all three, and an embarrassment to the Catholic community.
