‘Secret Society’ Of Vatican Gays ‘Put The Pope’s Safety At Risk’ Says Swiss Guard Vet

A former leader of the centuries-old police force that guards the Pope is claiming that there’s a “secret society” of gays in the Vatican and they are a threat to the pontiff’s safety. He also says gays are attracted to the all-male institution just like pedophiles are attracted to schools.

Elmar Maeder, in charge of the Swiss Guard from 2002-2008, now claims members of this “secret society” are more loyal to each other — because they’re gay — than they are to the Pope.

“Gays tend to show one another a lot of solidarity and this leads them to be more loyal to one another rather than to an institution,” Maeder curiously claims. “In the end, they become a sort of secret society, secret enough to put the Pope’s safety at risk.”

The Irish Times reports that Maeder “gave no example of an occasion when the Pope’s safety had been risked,” adding he “also said that if he had discovered that one of his guards was gay, he would blocked his career.”

“I have no problem with homosexuality but the risk of disloyalty to the (Swiss Guard) corps would have been too high,” he said.

Mr. Maeder said the all-male environment of the Roman Curia acted “like a magnet” for gay men, just as schools and sports clubs and other places where children gather attracted ‘would-be paedophiles.’

Mr. Maeder’s comments come two weeks after two unnamed former Swiss Guards had told the same newspaper that they had been sexually harassed by members of the Roman Curia, including on at least one occasion by a Cardinal.

In 2011, the book “Sex and the Vatican,” was published. It claims that thousands of Catholic priests are living their lives in secret, “illicit relationships” — homosexual and heterosexual — according to its author, an investigative journalist who lived undercover for months to document what he calls a “hidden world.”
