Despite my question of whether or not it was appropriate for Rachel Maddow to appear on the David Letterman Show after his earlier assault this week on trans folk, (please weigh in here!) I cannot deny that I still love Rachel Maddow! Here she is, last night, on Letterman.
But before you watch, I want to commend Ms. Maddow for her statement about the tragedy of unemployment having such a high human cost. So rarely do the media – and politicians – talk in those terms. It’s always, as we learned today, “85,000 jobs lost last month.” No. It’s 85,000 people lost jobs last month. Possibly less accurate (someone can have and lose more than one job) but far more appropriate.
