Miss Pennsylvania USA just resigned from the Miss Universe competition, after Miss Rhode Island Olivia Culpo — crowned Miss USA last week — was asked if she supported transgender contestants in the pageant, and totally said yes, she does. Apparently, Miss Pennsylvania, aka Sheena Monnin, took a week to figure out what this meant, and this week resigned in protest that the Miss Universe Organization would support transgender contestants, even though the transgender contestant,  Jenna Talackova, “sought to compete for Miss Canada. She ultimately finished in the Top 12 and was was named Miss Congeniality,” as Zack Ford at Think Progress wrote. He explains:
In an email to the Miss Universe Organization she explained just how she really felt about trans people:
[I refuse to be] part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles as to allow and support natural born males to compete in it. This goes against ever moral fiber of my being. I believe in integrity, high moral character, and fair play, none of which are part of this system any longer.
Were these comments not offensive enough, she then posted false statements about her resignation on Facebook, claiming that the real reason she quit was because she believed the pageant was rigged. Donald Trump responded that he believes “her primary issue is that she lost and she’s angry about losing. And frankly, in my opinion, I saw her barely a second and she didn’t deserve to be in the top 15.â€
To boot, as the Daily News just reported, “Miss Pennsylvania will likely not be getting the Miss Congeniality award.” The Post adds:
On Wednesday, the organization’s co-owner, Donald Trump, said he planned to sue Monnin over her remarks.
“She said some really strong things. When she’s using the word ‘fraud,’ that’s pretty strong, so we’re going to be suing her on that basis,†he said in an appearance on NBC’s “Today†show, and dismissed her claims as merely “loser’s remorse.â€
Monnin also alleged on her Facebook page that she “witnessed another contestant who said she saw the list of the Top 5 BEFORE THE SHOW EVER STARTED.â€
Monnin claims she knew the show was rigged when the top five was announced in the same order she had seen it before the show.
That post has also since been deleted.
Of course, all this brouhaha means that Sheena Monnin is now on the top of the acquisition chart of the National Organization For Marriage, whose published corporate policy — as we all know thanks to HRC’s publishing of previously-sealed court documents including NOM’s corporate strategy — is to use “artists, athletes, writers, beauty queens and other glamorous non-cognitive elites†to advance their message that anything except “traditional” bigoted values, is wrong.
As we wrote back in March, Beauty queen Carrie Prejean and football star David Tyree were merely two pawns in Maggie Gallagher‘s palms, fulfilling NOM’s corporate strategy and directives.
