White House To Harold Ford: “We’re Supporting Gillibrand”
Anti-Gay Former Congressman Forging Ahead Despite President’s Disapproval
I’ve been expressing my concern about a potential Harold Ford run for Kristin Gillibrand’s Senate seat. His opposition to same sex marriage is unacceptable. Even though he declared his support for gay marriage today on the Today Show, his past positions have been not only clear, but clearly offensive:
“They said I’m for gay marriage when I voted against it, for giving school girls abortion pills. All of a lie. Here’s what I believe: In God, in you and a new direction.”
Today at a White House press briefing, via The New York Times:
“I think the White House is quite happy with the leadership and the representation of Senator Gillibrand in New York,†Mr. Gibbs said when asked about Mr. Ford at a White House press briefing. “We’re supporting her re-election.â€
And yet, despite specific support for Gillibrand over Ford from the White House, Ford is saying he’s in. Here he is on Hardball tonight:
