Weinergate: Will Twitter DMs To 17-Year Old Girl Spell The End Of Weiner?

Weinergate continues. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) is now under investigation by Delaware police for direct private messages he sent to a 17-year old girl who began following him on Twitter in April. Reportedly there are several “DMs” sent by Weiner to the unnamed minor.

UPDATE: Delaware officials investigated and the New York Post reports, “Weiner sent nothing obscene — and sent only two brief messages to her daughter about seeing him during an April school trip to the Capitol.”

Anthony Weiner’s Weinergate has been major news for two weeks now, ever since Friday, May 27 when, as we have now learned, the New York Congressman sent a lewd photograph of himself to a woman, and accidentally sent it out publicly, instead of via a “DM,” or a “direct message,” which, like an email, can be sent to only one person in relative privacy.

In his Monday afternoon press conference, Weiner himself was the first to mention the possibility of inappropriate conversations with underage women, when he stated he believed all his inappropriate conversations were with women who were not underage.

“Investigators from the New Castle County Police Department questioned the girl Friday afternoon, according to Fox News, which said it had reporters present at the home when police arrived,” Roll Call reported Friday evening.

“Prior to the Fox News report, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Friday afternoon declined to explicitly call for Weiner to quit Congress, telling the Associated Press that it is up to “the individual Member” and their constituents to decide. A spokesman for Pelosi did not immediately return a request for comment on the Fox News report.”

There is no evidence currently that Weiner had inappropriate conversations with the 17-year old.

“I came here to accept full responsibility for what have done. I accept responsibility for this,” Weiner told reporters Monday. “I don’t know what I was thinking. It was wrong and I regret it.”

“I have made terrible mistakes and I have not been honest with myself or my constituents,” the embattled Congressman stated.

Reports this week have also stated that Weiner’s district might disappear in a future redistricting.
