Watch Ted Cruz Recite Dr. Seuss’ ‘Green Eggs And Ham’ — On The Senate Floor
In the middle of the afternoon yesterday, Republican Senator Ted Cruz began what he claims is a filibuster of Obamacare. In fact, it is not a filibuster, and he’s in essence shooting down a bill he dared the House to send to the Senate — defunding Obamacare via a CR, or continuing resolution, which would fund the government until the beginning of December, but defund Obamacare.
Cruz started his long-winded speech which will accomplish absolutely nothing — except the padding of his campaign war chest — at 2:41 PM ET. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can and likely will make him stop speaking around noon, depriving the Texas Tea Party wingnut of even a 24-hour badge of honor.
And to be clear, Cruz is getting help from other radical Republicans, like Rand Paul and Mike Lee, who are letting him take breaks.
Around 8:00 PM last night, Cruz interrupted his comparison of those who oppose him to those who supported the Nazis, to read a bedtime story, Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham, to his two children.
Texas Democratic state senator Wendy Davis, who successfully stopped, at least temporarily, a heinous anti-abortion bill from being voted on in the Texas Senate in June, stood by herself, with no help from anyone else, being able to only speak on the bill — no “Green Eggs and Ham” and no leaning on the podium — for more than 11 hours.
Cruz could have taken this time he has the cameras on him, at least the C-SPAN ones since few are actually watching, to make this into a GOP classroom, “educating” America about why they think Obamacare will hurt America.
Instead, Ted Cruz’s real message: look at me.
So, go ahead.
But remember, what Cruz wants to do is take the right to healthcare insurance from 30 million people.
Including kids.
