Watch: Starbucks Shareholders Slam Anti-Gay NOM Plant, Applaud Equality

Howard Schultz, CEO of the Seattle-based Starbucks coffee retailer, tells a NOM plant that a board convened to discuss whether or not to support same-sex marriage equality and sign on to a letter supporting marriage equality in Washington state. “I would assure you that the senior team at Starbucks discussed it, and it was, to be candid with you, not a difficult decision for us.” The audience heartily applauds Schultz and marriage equality.

Then in this video, another NOM plant asks essentially the same question, and gets the same answer.

All this of course was just positioning because NOM knew they were going to lose big in New Hampshire today and wanted to do something to draw attention away from the fact that America strongly supports marriage equality.

So they launched their ludicrous and false site, “Dump Starbucks,” and are claiming that Starbucks “has taken a corporate-wide position that marriage between one man and one woman should be eliminated and that same-sex marriage should become the norm.”

Jeremy Hooper at Good As You writes, “NOM gets SMACKED DOWN! Starbucks chairman and CEO Howard Shultz says the company’s support for marriage equality “was not something that was a difficult decision for us.”

Fairness and equality really shouldn’t be a big decision.

I hope you’ll watch the video to the end. Schultz beautifully states that success for Starbucks, a company of 200,000 employees, is linked to whether or not their employees can feel proud of their company. Having spent 25 years in corporate America, running multi-million dollar businesses, I concur 100%. he also notes that since they made the decision to support marriage, “there has not been any dilution in our business.”

Thank you, Starbucks!

Update: For some baffling reason, NOM made one version of their video “private,” so we’re adding this one — which appears to be the same but poorer quality.

Here’s the old one:
