WATCH: Obama Says ‘I Do Not Think It’s Appropriate To Boycott The Olympics’
President Barack Obama today said, “I do not think it’s appropriate to boycott the Olympics,” and added, “If Russia doesn’t have gay or lesbian athletes, it will probably make their team weaker.” The President noted that he personally is looking forward to “some gay and lesbian athletes bringing home the gold or silver or bronze.”
“Nobody’s more offended than me by some of the anti-gay and lesbian legislation than you’ve been seeing in Russia,†he added.
The President, who is speaking right now at a scheduled press conference, also suggested that a good way to counter Putin’s anti-gay laws is for American athletes to be successful in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
