Watch: Obama Hugs Neil Patrick Harris As First Family Lights White House Christmas Tree

var addthis_config = {“data_track_addressbar”:true};President Obama offered a hug tonight to Neil Patrick Harris, host of the 90th annual lighting of the White House Christmas tree. After jogging on stage, the First Family gathered together, the President and Neil Patrick Harris counted down — despite a few trip ups, as there apparently had not been a script or a rehearsal — and voila! Light!

17,000 people gathered to witness the event, and the show after the lighting, featuring James Taylor, Colbie Caillat, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, The Fray, Jason Mraz, and American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, and others.

Modern Family’s Rico Rodriguez joined Mrs. Obama, Sasha and Malia.

For more, visit the National Park Foundation, the national charitable partner of the National Park Service, and see an interactive timeline featuring photos of every tree lighting since the first in 1923.

Fortunately, no Tea Party activists have yet complained about the tree being too big or having too many lights.
