Thomas Roberts, who has grown incredibly in his role as an MSNBC anchor, today gave new meaning to the word “shutdown.” In an interview with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Roberts proved that the GOP not only has no idea what they’re doing, they cannot understand that Americans actually talk about real issues from a factual point of view. In short, not every person only talks in talking points.
Talking about the GOP shutdown and the President’s speech on it this morning, Roberts asked Priebus, “why do we need to attach the solutions or changes that go along with the law, that has been vetted by the Supreme Court, by a mandate by the people re-electing the President and both houses of Congress, why should that be attached to shutting down the government, and as the President is saying, basically writing a ransom note and asking for some type of goody bag in response for Congress doing its job to govern?â€
To be frank, this is exactly what I’ve been saying all week to my friends and family.
“Those are some pretty good talking points,†was Preibus’ response.
Seriously?
Priebus cannot sort the wheat from the chaff?
“It sounds like I’m debating the chairman of the DNC here, Thomas,†an annoyed Priebus said. “That’s fine. I’m happy to debate you.â€
“No, no, no,†Roberts responded. “These are not talking points, and this is about what’s going on right now in Washington, D.C., and why they have to associate the health care law with running our government.â€
“You said goody bags,†Priebus went on — as if that’s a problem?
“That was in the president’s speech,†Roberts noted.

“So we have to capitulate to whatever the president wants?†asked Priebus.
“No, you have to govern,†Roberts retorted.
