Watch: Local GOP Chair Calls Blacks ‘Lazy’ And ‘Stupid’ — Stands By Comments

South Carolina used to be one of the most racist and homophobic states in America, but recently North Carolina has definitely been on its way to overcoming South Carolina. Take, for example, Don Yelton. Up until earlier today, Yelton was North Carolina’s GOP Precinct Chair — essentially the GOP chairman of Buncombe County.

Wednesday night, “The Daily Show” aired an interview conducted by Aasif Mandvi that culminated in Yelton’s firing.

Why?

“Matter of fact, one of my best friends is black.”

“When I was a young man, you didn’t call a black a black, you called him a negro.”

“I had a picture one time of Obama sittin’ on a stump as a witch doctor and I posted that on Facebook. I was making fun of the white half of Obama, not the black half.”

“If [the law] hurts the whites so be it. If it hurts a bunch of lazy blacks that want the government to give them everything, so be it.”

“Now you have a black person using the term n*gger this and n*gger that and it’s okay for them to do it.”

Yes, those were just the top five racist comments Yelton made on camera.

But don’t worry, Yelton isn’t going to waste your time with one of those fake, “I apologize if I offended anyone” apologies.

Because he’s not sorry at all.

“The comments that were made, that I said, I stand behind them. I believe them”

And in case anyone wants to claim the video was selectively edited to make him look bad — don’t waste your breath.

“To tell you the truth, there were a lot of things I said that they could’ve made sound worse than what they put up.”

Fortunately, the North Carolina state GOP Chair demanded Yelton resign or be fired — which is tantamount to being fired.

“We have requested that Don resign his position of precinct chair and if he is unwilling to do this, we will again be pursuing avenues to remove him from any and all positions at any level within the state,” Chairman Claude Pope said via Facebook.

Here’s the Daily Show interview that led to Yelton getting the boot.

It is worth watching, because the Daily Show does a great job. What’s missing from most headlines is the entire issue that the report covers: voter suppression by the GOP.

Can we start talking about that instead of the problems with the Healthcare.gov website now?
