Jesse Tyler Ferguson, star of Modern Family, last night discussed with CNN’s Piers Morgan his comments that he wants to marry Barack Obama in response to the President’s announced support yesterday of same-sex marriage. Ferguson, who is gay, said via Twitter, “I would like to marry @BarackObama right now!,” after first asking permission from Mrs. Obama and Ferguson’s partner, Justin Mikita.
“I could have given him the biggest hug. I was already enamored with the man but today just sealed the deal. It’s been a great day,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson also mentioned actress Cynthia Nixon‘s comments on marriage. “When women got the vote, they did not ‘redefine’ voting. When African Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not ‘redefine’ eating out,” Nixon said in 2010.
Morgan went off on how “violent” Kirk Cameron‘s comments on Morgan’s show were. Cameron created a firestorm when he appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight in March and said that homosexuality “is destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization,†and added it is “unnatural.â€
