Watch: Gabby Giffords Releases New Gun Control Ad — ‘Let’s Get This Done’
Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is releasing a new gun control ad via a super PAC she and her husband Mark Kelly recently formed. Giffords, 42, spent a year in rehab after having been shot in the head, the target of a crazed gunman who attempted to assassinate her in 2011, recently testified before Congress on gun control, and will attend the State of the Union address tomorrow, as a guest of the man who took her seat, Rep. Ron Barber, a Democrat.
“We have a problem. Where we shop, where we pray, where our children go to school. But there are solutions we can agree on, even gun owners like us. Take it from me. Congress must act,” Giffords says in their new gun control ad from Americans for Responsible Solutions, while standing next to her husband.
Politico notes that “Giffords has planned a strong push for gun control legislation to coincide with Tuesday’s State of the Union address.
House Democrats are using Tuesday’s speech to draw attention to gun control, with several members pledging to bring as guests victims and family members of gun violence.
Giffords and Kelly formed the super PAC in the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., shooting in December. Liberal megadonor Steve Mostyn is serving as the treasurer of the super PAC and has already contributed $1 million.
Americans for Responsible Solutions is also on Facebook.
