Watch: Cuomo’s ESPA Speech Calling For Nationwide Marriage Equality

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke Thursday night at the annual Empire State Pride Agenda (ESPA) dinner, during which he called for every state to adopt marriage equality. Many noted it was Cuomo’s first-ever national commentary. Governor Cuomo has been heralded for his sheepherding of his same-sex marriage equality bill through a Republican Senate. During the speech, Cuomo also offered strong praise for New York City Speaker Christine Quinn, whom many see as the next Mayor of New York City.

“This message is going to resonate all across this nation,” Cuomo said. “Part of it is the power of New York, because this is New York, and when New York does something everyone else watches and everyone else notices.”

“Now on the topic of marriage. I just want you to remember there is good news and there is bad news. The good news is, marriage. The bad news is there are no longer any excuses,” Governor Cuomo joked. “You will now feel the pressure, and you will get the questions and the looks.
