US Bookstores Ban Magazine For Topless Model — Topless Male Model

U.S. bookstores Barnes and Noble and Borders have banned copies of Dossier from its shelves for its topless cover photo of a man, unless the magazine pays to cover up the model — in plastic bags. The bi-annual culture and fashion magazine features a photo of soon-to-be supermodel Andrej Pejic.

“The set curls and the demure expression are very young-woman-at-her-toilet in mood, the tuxedo shirt and black pants are very young-man-peacocking-about,” writes Jezebel, of the cover shot. “Which is to say, this cover is kind of hot.”

And over at the Washington Post, they say, “Usually reserved for porn magazines, the wrapping was requested for Dossier because Barnes & Noble was concerned customers would mistake the cover model for a shirtless woman.”

The Advocate reports:

“According to Dossier Co-Founder and Creative Director Skye Parrott, only American bookstores are complaining.

“It’s a naked man on the cover of a magazine, which is done all of the time without being covered up, so I definitely don’t think it merits this, but I understand what it is,” Parrott told The Huffington Post. “It’s not a coincidence that it’s only the giant U.S. chain stores that are asking us to do this…It’s only the American copies that are being censored.”

“Pejic appeared on The Advocate‘s Forty Under 40 list in May. The 19-year-old model, who has been featured in the French, Italian, and Turkish editions of Vogue, is on the brink of supermodel status.

“According to Elle, Dossier will have to cover the cost of bagging the magazines.”

What do you think? Prude? Porn? Problem?
