UPDATE 4: This Is The Gun The Connecticut Elementary School Shooter Used

This is an image of a .223-caliber rifle, the type of gun the masked shooter, a 20-year old male, used in this morning’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The shooting left 26 people dead, including 20 children. The school teaches 600 children ages five to ten. The image, above, is a Bushmaster .223, which reports state is the type of gun that was used in the shooting, and rifle casings reportedly were found on the scene. the type, but possibly not the brand of gun the shooter used. The brand remains unknown.

This type of gun is legal in the U.S. Reports state four  three guns were found at the school and three at the Lanza home. The other three are unknown as of now.

32 Americans are killed every day by guns. Today’s shooting is the second worst in American history.

UPDATE #1: MSNBC now states the gunman also was carrying a 9mm Glock.

UPDATE #2 7:15 PM:

“The shooter who killed at least 27 people at a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school – including 18 children – was brandishing several weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest, witnesses told reporters,” the NY Daily News reports: A law enforcement source said three weapons were found at the scene: a Glock handgun, a SIG Sauer handgun and a .223 caliber Bushmaster rifle. The child victims “were all shot with a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle.”
