Bob Vander Plaats, the leader of the Iowa-based anti-gay organization the Family Leader, today demanded schools teach LGBT students they can never, ever have sex. That would be the result of his op-ed titled, “A better lesson – Sex is right only after marriage,” which is an open letter admonition to Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. Branstad has lent his name to the Seventh Annual Iowa Governor’s Conference on LGBTQ Youth, of which Vander Plaats demands “the keynote address should be anchored in promoting sexual abstinence.”
Since Vander Plaats believes there is no such institution as same-sex marriage — despite Iowa’s laws to the contrary — Vander Plaats is advocating that gay and lesbian students, even upon becoming adults, never have sex.
Vander Plaats, who gained national notoriety for his anti-gay, anti-porn, anti-Sharia, pro-slavery marriage vow that he demanded all presidential candidates — including President Obama — Â sign, also attacks the conference, claiming it “discriminates and excludes the majority of the students who are frequently bullied within our schools.”
“As a parent and educator, I believe it is our responsibility to teach children best practices,” Vander Plaats writes. “To teach anything other than the best to our children would be negligence to our highest calling as adults.”
The Family Leader leader, who may be facing an FEC investigation for his reported attempt to force a million-dollar bribe from the Rick Santorum presidential campaign, then turns his attention to the Seventh Annual Iowa Governor’s Conference on LGBTQ Youth.
This conference comes complete with the distribution of condoms and “safe sex†kits to our 14- to 18-year-old students and provides “transgender friendly restrooms.†To anchor this conference and its instruction to our youth is a keynote address by the star of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.â€
I urge you to take a deep breath and reread the previous paragraph. Our leaders, led by our governor, are handing out sex devices, which undoubtedly promote promiscuity among our teens. They are allowing boys to use the girls’ restroom and vice versa. And the keynote speaker is clearly about agenda acceleration rather than safe schools for academic achievement.
Vander Plaats adds:
The governor and his staff attempt to validate the governor’s full support of this conference by stating the conference is about anti-bullying, not about advancing homosexual behavior.
Really? If this is sincerely the case, then this conference itself discriminates and excludes the majority of the students who are frequently bullied within our schools. Statistics show the vast majority (around 90 percent) of bullying incidents are because of race, physical attributes and other categories, not because of sexual identification.
This is how the right attempts to demonize, segregate, and maintain our second-class status. Claiming we do not exist, our relationships are invalid, and then, after all is said and done, having the audacity to demand we surrender those actions and institutions that are enacted to correct and repair these wrongs.
